Behind the scenes video from the shoot I did for the launch issue of Re:call Magazine.

Shot by Alexander Dellow.

the painting
thats what its all about
doing that god-thing
on the canvas

trying to glue
the world
together
with septic egos
and
grand vanitys

to believe totaly
in
the importance
of your work
but
know
that alls
to be rubbed
out
in 2 life times
or less

thats the
balancing act:
shouldering self importance
with the humbling
ferocity
of the stars

there lies that
strange
bravery

The Hand of Billy Childish
This spring I’ve spent a several afternoons with Billy in his Dockyard studio, documenting the paintings taking shape. Following his critically acclaimed exhibition at Lehmann Maupin, New York earlier this year, he has been painting several large scale works destined for solo exhibitions in Seoul, Berlin, Los Angeles and Chatham. The exhibition in Chatham opens at the No. 1 Smithery Gallery the 1st of June.

THE ILLUSTRATOR
I have decided to publish some information about some of my sitters from the There is a Storm Coming Project here on my blog.
The first person out is Mark Barnes aka The Illustrator aka Britain’s Fourth Greatest Illustrator. He is a fantastic illustrator with a great sense of humour added to the mix.

Every day, the work of photographers is being used without their consent
French Ad Campaign for Photographers’ Rights, from French photographers organization Union des Photographes Professionnels (UPP).
Here’s a statement from UPP:
‘It’s obvious that professional photographers are not being listened to. So, for the first time, we’re speaking to the photographic community with an image. We hope to raise awareness among the public, as well as the media and the government, about photographers’ problems. Each day, photographers are faced with decreasing rates. They are forced to compete against image libraries that are offering vile prices. These practices are infringing on photographers’ moral rights.’

New (massive) photography exhibition at The Saatchi Gallery, London.
Out of Focus Exhibition at Saatchi Gallery from the 25 April - 22 July.
‘Out of Focus’ presents 38 artists who offer an international perspective on current trends in photography, working with the medium in diverse, innovative and arresting ways. The exhibition comes at a time when the world of photography is going through one of its richest and also most complicated moments. The work of the artists challenges the received rules and regulations of the medium.
The artists have shared concerns, but display a huge range of approaches: from classic documentary photography to the reworking of found images, from capturing collaborative performances to photographs of three-dimensional assemblages themselves made out of photographs.
I am particularly look forward to seeing the images by JH Engström and Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin.
